Version 4. Date: February 26, 2025
Welcome to the page for US subscriptions at Bonner Comic Laden.
Below, we have listed what you should know about subscribing to our comics:
1. How do you calculate the comics, and are there any discounts for subscriptions?
We calculate our comic prices based on the current exchange rate.
This means that if the dollar falls, our prices also decrease. If the dollar rises, we must adjust our subscription prices accordingly.
A 10% discount is available on almost all comics from Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Image, as well as many smaller publishers.
For magazines and certain smaller publishers, the discount may be lower or even nonexistent. This would need to be checked individually.
No discount is offered on merchandise, and there is often even a markup on the dollar price.
Here's a sample calculation for a comic with a standard discount:
$3.99 x daily exchange rate of 0.95 = €3.79 x 10% subscription discount = €3.41
2. How exactly do I order?
As of now (April 29, 2025), we manage our US subscriptions through Manage Comics. What exactly does this mean for you?
You now have several options for ordering your US comics from us.
1. Create a free account.
Afterward, you have two options:
A. Pre-order your comics each month. To do this, go to "Subscriptions" and then the "Publishers" section. There you'll see the complete catalog for the current month (Lunar and Random House). You can then pre-order or subscribe to comics via the detailed view. This method is best for customers who like to have a choice of multiple covers and sometimes order the main cover and sometimes a variant cover.
Alternatively, you can subscribe to series (via "Subscribe"). This has the advantage that the latest issue of a series is automatically ordered each time. This also works with most trade paperback and hardcover series. You just need to keep an eye out for new releases and any single or special issues.
This method is best for customers who prefer the main cover.
NOTE: You can also subscribe to the B variant cover.
Furthermore, each new release is considered a separate series, and previous subscriptions are not carried over. This should be taken into account, for example, with Marvel and Dynamite, which often relaunch their series every 6-12 months.
Of course, you can also subscribe to only some of the series and place individual orders for other series each month (e.g., for variant covers).
2. In the future, you send us a ONCE via email listing the series you would like to subscribe to, and then updates as needed with series/individual issues you want to add or remove from your subscription. This eliminates the need to send us your complete monthly order.
3. As before, you send us your complete monthly order via email in the usual format (title, with order code if possible).
You can also see when your pre-ordered comics are scheduled to be released via "Release Dates" (especially helpful in case of delays).
We hope we've piqued your interest in Manage Comics and that you'll use it for your subscriptions in the future. :)
Important: Please note that the list is generated two months in advance. This means that if you order comics in May, they will be released in July; comics ordered in June will be released in August, and so on. This is especially important if you want earlier issues, which we might then have to reorder.
3. Where can I see what new releases are coming out?
The best way is to check the solicitations offered on various news sites, such as comicbookresources.com. These announcements are listed there, separated by publisher. However, this usually only applies to print products. Merchandise and similar items are rarely, if ever, included.
4. Why do I have to put together my order myself every time?
Years of experience have shown that this is the best method, as every order is clear and unambiguous. It also makes it easier for customers to add or remove new series from their subscription, as the relevant issues can simply be ordered or not ordered. This eliminates the need to send a separate email for every subscription change, reducing the potential for errors.
5. What exactly does "subscription" mean? What about cancellation periods?
Strictly speaking, receiving US comics through us isn't a "subscription" in the traditional sense. However, there's no direct equivalent for the American term "pull list." In practice, it's more like "regular, fixed pre-orders."
You can cancel your comic subscription at any time; there's no obligation to purchase. However, we kindly ask our customers to accept pre-ordered products (please also note the aforementioned two-month lead time), which should go without saying.
6. How and when is shipping handled?
We have a central shipping date for US subscriptions once a month. This is usually in the second or third week of the month.
We charge a flat rate of €5.90 per shipment. Of course, especially for smaller subscriptions, there's the option to receive your subscription only every two or even three months to save on shipping costs.
7. How do I pay?
Delivery is made on account (for new customers, we reserve the right to request prepayment if necessary). Prepayment is neither necessary nor possible (partly because announced items sometimes don't appear).
Payment via PayPal is possible after consultation. Direct debit is also available for our regular customers.
8. Can I order everything from Manage Comics' catalog?
Unfortunately not.
Firstly, there are products that are not authorized for sale outside of North America due to licensing restrictions (currently, these include the manga and Star Wars series from Dark Horse Comics, comic series featuring Disney characters such as "Gargoyles," and primarily merchandise). However, we are making every effort to source these products from other suppliers.
Obtaining series dealing with the topic of National Socialism is also difficult. These are blocked from shipping to Germany by the distributor.
Clothing items (e.g., T-shirts) and food items (e.g., sweets) cannot be ordered through us for customs reasons.
When ordering DVDs and Blu-rays, please note the region code. We are not responsible for ordered products that are unplayable due to this region code.
Furthermore, we cannot ship adult-rated items.
Also important: Please DO NOT order the title COMIC SHOP NEWS! It cannot be ordered individually, only in packs of 100. We do not carry this title and would therefore charge customers who order it for the entire bundle (currently approximately €25 per issue).
9. What is the order deadline?
The delivery note/invoice will state the date by which your new order must be received.
10. What about variant covers?
Variant covers, which can be found in previews or the online catalog with their own order code, can usually be ordered normally.
Then there's the 1-to-1 cover method. This means that if an issue has two covers that cannot be ordered individually, we have no control over this and will assign each subscriber a cover of our choosing.
Special covers that are tied to a specific order quantity (e.g., in a 1-to-10 allocation) are generally not available to us, and if they are, they are available in the online shop. Subscriptions for these are unfortunately not possible, as we cannot guarantee that we will receive every cover for every issue.
11. What about back issues? Can you order older issues?
Yes and no.
Older issues (meaning a period of approximately 3-12 months) from DC and Dark Horse can usually still be ordered.
The situation is different with Marvel, Image, and almost all smaller publishers. Here, the respective issues are usually sold out as soon as they are released. However, there are always exceptions, so it's best to send a corresponding wish list as soon as possible to minimize gaps in your collection.
